about me

Hi, I'm Artyom and I'm an artist. I was born in Tashkent, which is the capital of Uzbekistan, formerly part of the Soviet Union. Art has been the engine of my life and I would like to share this with you.
I started drawing at an early age under my father's guidance. At the age of six, I had the opportunity to focus on art at the Art School for Children. I still remember that my classes used to take place on a huge balcony. I had memorable times there! I experimented with materials as much as I wanted because the school's policy was to let children experience art and be creative. The school's philosophy helped me feel comfortable and find my artistic soul. I really appreciate my former teachers because their teaching is embedded in who I am as an artist now.
Later, in my senior year of high school, I had the opportunity to take a stage scenery class. In this class I learned new techniques to work with metal and wood. For the final project, my friend and I made a huge mural whose theme was food. This work was displayed on one of the walls of my school's cafeteria.
I also had the opportunity to learn another kind of art - fashion design. In fact, I worked as a fashion designer for a decade. Although I enjoyed working in this field, I decided to leave it because I was continuously asked to do the same designs. I felt there was no room for more creative work.
In 2006, I moved to the United States, but unfortunately I could bring almost none of my art work. Here I learned about oil painting for the first time, and I found it very practical in contrast to water and acrylic coloring. I took some lessons and since then I have been focused on oil painting and ink pen drawing.
I also find designing furniture and interiors very rewarding. I designed the interior and made some furniture for a spa on the Upper Eastside of Manhattan. These are shown in the design section.
Art is food for my spirit. My passion for art has been mostly inspired by imagination rather than the real world. I feel Nature itself is perfect; therefore there is no need to interpret it. Thus, my art is all about human-creation. You can see this on this website and I hope you will enjoy it. If you would like more details, please feel free to contact me.
